Plot:
The film is set in London in the 1920s, and the plot will focus on the affair between Woolf and West: Virginia Stephens married Leonard Woolf in 1912, and then met the upper-class writer Vita Sackville West, the wife of Harold Nicholson. Since 1922, they have started a decade-long relationship, maintained a sexual relationship, and exchanged many love letters and diaries. After their relationship ended, the two remained good friends until Woolf's death in 1941. This will be Chanya Button's second feature film after "Burn Burn Burn" in 2015. Eileen Atkins wrote the script, which is based on the stage play of the same name in which she starred (first performed in London in 1993 and landed on Broadway in 1994). It will also be based on the love letters between Woolf and West. Eva Green and Andrea Riseborough had previously been approached for the role of Woolf, but later withdrew. The director called it a "fresh and exciting film, full of creativity, passion and sexuality". Other cast members include Isabella Rossellini, Rupert Penry-Jones and Peter Ferdinando. Filming will begin in Ireland in September.
