The story follows a group of friends who abuse Lin Shaye's character, suspecting her of being a witch. When Lin Shaye's character dies, her husband (Tobin Bell) forces the group to call his deceased wife. They make the call, and someone answers the phone. A teenage prank quickly turns into a terrifying nightmare. The four friends are trapped in a world of hellish phone calls.
