In 1977, the eighth-grade students of Wafang School were told that the class was about to be disbanded because of the teacher's limited ability. The class was in chaos, and parents put pressure on the principal, saying that if a teacher was not arranged, the school would not be at peace. When they were at a loss, the superiors sent Fang Ge, a female teacher who had joined the team. Dalou was the worst student, so Teacher Fang decided to start with him; however, in order to achieve the goal of going to a middle school in the city, Dalou and other students tried their best to mess up the class, so they repeatedly challenged Teacher Fang. Wu Rina, the best student in the class, helped Dalou, and there were many rumors. The gangsters harassed Teacher Fang many times, but were stopped by Dalou and other students. Teacher Fang's substitute position has been "thought of" by others, and it has been up and down several times. After many setbacks, Teacher Fang finally strengthened his determination to fight with students to defend their studies. Fang Ge took the college entrance examination with the students, but failed, while Dalou and Wu Rina passed the exam. In the end, Teacher Fang and the villagers bid farewell to the students who walked out of Wafang Village for the first time in tears.
