The Magic Castle Inn is located in the run-down Kissimmee County of Florida, a small economically depressed county only 25-30 minutes' drive from the Orlando Disney theme park. Monie is a precocious six-year-old girl who lives in a cheap single room at the Magic Castle Inn with her young unemployed mother, Haley, and leads a hard life. They survive on junk food, charity donations, and sometimes have to beg or steal from the endless stream of tourists going to Disneyland. During the summer vacation, Monie and her friends embark on a series of adventures.
