Plot:
This work consists of six stories, namely "New Year's Eve Dinner", "Youth with Promise", "Extraordinary Summer", "Yearning", "Forever Youth", and "A Bowl of Duck Blood Vermicelli Soup". The overall name is "The Promise", which means that "building a well-off society in an all-round way in 2020" is a happy agreement between the Party, the country and the people. Against the background of this big "promise", each story is connected by a series of small agreements. Some of these agreements are between the protagonist and himself, some are with old friends, some are with family members, and even with strangers. The six stories involve family affection, love, and friendship emotionally; the protagonists range in age from teenagers to the elderly; the regions range from cities to rural areas, from farmers to workers, to white-collar elites. "The Promise" uses a variety of perspectives to show people's sense of happiness in fulfilling the "promise" with themselves, others, and the country.
