Shinkai Moto (Takuya Kimura), a co-pilot of an international airline, has always dreamed of becoming a captain. On a flight from Honolulu to Japan, Captain Mizushima suddenly felt unwell and could not continue to drive. In this sudden crisis, Shinkai's calm judgment led to a safe landing of the plane. Because of his negligence, Shinkai was severely criticized by prosecutor Kazuki Koda (Shinichi Tsutsumi) and dissatisfied by female mechanic Ayumi Ogawa (Ko Shibasaki). Shinkai felt very frustrated and depressed. Captain Mizushima decided to retire after completing his last flight due to physical reasons. Koda was worried about Mizushima's health and the newcomer Shinkai, so he decided to accompany them on the flight.
