The style of the first part is continued, and the classic fairy tale is subverted in a benign way. After a romantic honeymoon, Shrek and Princess Fiona return to the swamp. Invited by Fiona's parents, King Harwald and Queen Lillian, the monster couple, along with their donkey, head to the "Faraway Country". The king and queen are surprised to see their daughter and the dragon-riding son-in-law after a long separation, and the disaster seems to have begun from then on. The princess' former fairy godmother had long ago asked her son "Prince Charming" to go to the castle to slay the dragon and save the beauty, but unfortunately Shrek got there first. She found the famous monster killer Puss in Boots in the fairy tale, ready to snatch back the wife of her dreams.
