The story takes place in the distant year of 2057. The gradual decline of the sun is about to make mankind face the greatest crisis in history. If the sun is lost, the earth will fall into darkness and ice, and will never see the sun again. In order to save the earth, an eight-person action team is formed. They are the steady captain Kainda (played by Hiroyuki Sanada), the top botanist Karenzo (played by Michelle Yeoh), the navigation master Trey (played by Benedict Wong), the physicist Capa (played by Cillian Murphy), the driver Cassie (played by Rose Byrne) and her assistant Mas (played by Chris Evans), the commander Harvey (played by Troy Garity) and Dr. Cyril (played by Cliff Curtis). Carrying the mission of all mankind, the eight people drove the spacecraft "Icarus II" to the sun. As the destination approaches, problems continue to arise. Not only have they lost contact with Earth, but they have also received a distress signal from "Icarus 1", their predecessor. The atmosphere of danger and uneasiness continues to spread among the eight industry elites. Can they successfully complete the mission? Can they return to Earth safely?
