The story takes place in the 16th century, when rival warlords fought for control of Japan. While the daimyo Oda Nobunaga was intent on controlling Japan, and was at war with several forces, one of his retainers, Araki Murashige, rebelled and quickly disappeared. Nobunaga summoned his other retainers, including Mitsuhide and Hideyoshi, and ordered them to capture the fleeing Murashige, warning, "Whoever works the hardest, I will choose as my successor." With all sorts of ideas, plans, and traps, they are soon brought to a crossroads of a complicated situation. All roads lead to Honnoji, where their fate awaits them. Which direction will their "head" turn?
