Edward (Johnny Depp) is a robot with human intelligence but a pair of scissor hands. He lives alone in the castle. Peg, a cosmetics salesman who breaks into the castle, takes him home and lets him enter the human world. The innocent Edward falls in love with Peg's daughter Kim (Winona Ryder), and Kim is slowly attracted by Edward's kindness. However, a series of unexpected events make the attitude of the neighbors around him change from liking Edward to being unacceptable. Edward painfully discovers that he always does bad things with good intentions, and he can't even hug his lover. Perhaps, he is destined not to belong to this world.
