Plot:
This film is adapted from the classic novel "Love in a Fallen City" by the legendary Chinese female writer Eileen Chang. It tells the story of the love between the heroine Bai Liusu (played by Chen Shu) and the hero Fan Liuyuan (played by Huang Jue) in the smoke of war in old Shanghai in China in the 1930s. The ancestors of the Bai family, who have fallen into decline, were once prosperous, but they lived off their wealth and followed the old ways, and ended up living a hard-pressed life. In order to get rid of the dilemma, the Bai family married their sixth daughter Bai Liusu to the nouveau riche Tang family's young master Tang Yiyuan (played by Wang Xuebing). Bai Liusu originally thought that this would allow her to escape the squeeze and calculations and sharp faces of the people in the Bai Mansion, but the idle playboy Tang Yiyuan became even worse after marriage. After Tang Yiyuan's death, Tang's father offered Bai Liusu a generous price to remain a widow for his family... All kinds of injustices became more and more serious until Bai Liusu met the love of her life, Fan Liuyuan, and an unforgettable love was about to begin.
