Based on the novel by Juliet McDaniel, the series is set in the early 1970s and follows Maxine Simmons (Kristen Wiig) as she attempts to carve out a place at America’s most exclusive table: Palm Beach high society. As Maxine tries to straddle the unbridgeable divide between the haves and have-nots, the series asks questions that still perplex us today: Who gets to sit at the table in high society? How do you get there? And what will you sacrifice to get there?
