In the early years of the Tang Dynasty, the Phoenix Seal, a symbol of the Empress' power, was lost, which led to the forged imperial edict to kill the officials of the time. The "Phoenix Seal Case" caused unrest in the court. The conservatives were fine on the surface, but they secretly stepped up their conspiracy. Di Renjie (played by Zhou Yiwei), who was taking the imperial examination, was accidentally involved in a bizarre murder case. The play begins with Di Renjie's investigation of the murder case and the loss of the Phoenix Seal. It tells the story of Di Renjie's repeated solving of strange cases in various places during his duties, punishing corrupt officials, protecting coastal defense, eradicating evil, enforcing laws, and helping the people's safety. At the same time, he was able to uncover the mystery of his own life experience, showing Di Renjie's life creed of unity of knowledge and action.
