Neddy (Amanda Seyfried) and Jennifer (Megan Fox) are good friends who grew up together. Neddy is plain-looking and follows her friends' lead; Jennifer is the captain of the school cheerleading team, with unlimited glory and many suitors. They live together in the remote town of Devil's Kettle. One night, a rock band named Low Shoulder came to the only bar in the town, Melody Lane, to perform. Jennifer took her friends to go with her. At the beginning of the performance, a serious fire broke out in the bar. Neddy escaped by chance, but watched the frightened Jennifer being pulled into the car by the band members and drove away.
