The film is adapted from a true story. In February 1999, an old lady was robbed and killed in a supermarket in Samrye-eup, Wanju-gun, Jeollabuk-do. Three criminals, who were in their teens at the time, were sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment and served their sentences, but they later filed a request for a retrial in Baekbyeon, and 17 years later, the three were found not guilty.
