The film is based on the novel of the same name by Scottish writer Alasdair Gray. It combines elements of realism, fantasy and science fiction to reshape the story of Frankenstein. It is set in the late Victorian era. Bella (Emma Stone), a woman who escaped her husband's abuse but unfortunately died, was successfully resurrected by scientists. Her mind remained at the childhood stage, but she was full of desire for the unknown world. She eloped with a dissolute lawyer and embarked on an adventure of exploring herself, trying to get rid of the prejudice of the times against women and pursue equality and sexual liberation.
