The reboot of Magnum P.I. is similar in style to Hawaii Five-0, and is also set in Hawaii, but the protagonists are private detectives. The old version aired from 1980 to 1988. The new version is written by Peter Lenkov and Eric Guggenheim and directed by Justin Lin. In this version, the protagonists are still the Gang of Four, but unlike the old version, they are all men, but changed to three men and one woman. The plot tells the story of Thomas Magnum (Jay Hernandez), a decorated former Navy SEAL. After returning from Afghanistan, he put his military skills into being a private detective. His partners include former veterans Theodore "TC" Calvin and Orville "Rick" Wright, as well as the expelled former MI6 agent Juliet Higgins. Together they investigate various strange cases. Perdita Weeks plays Juliet Higgins, the Hawaii property manager of writer Robin Masters. Thomas is ostensibly a security guard for Robin in the show and lives in his guest room. Juliet is good at command, confident, strong, and verbally loves to complain. Zachary Knighton plays Rick, a former Marine Corps door shooter (helicopter gunner) who now runs the most popular nightclub on Oahu; the protagonist has a close relationship with him because the three male protagonists have been prisoners of war in Iraq. In Hawaii, Rick is the best choice to help the protagonist find things. Stephen Hill plays Theodore "TC" Calvin, a former Marine Corps helicopter pilot. He runs Hawaii's smallest but most high-quality helicopter tour company "Island Hoppers"; because they have all been prisoners of war, TC has become one of Thomas' most loyal friends.
