Plot:
Carl Weaver (Steve Carell) is in middle age, and the midlife crisis has arrived as expected - his wife Emily (Julianne Moore) filed for divorce, leaving him at a loss in front of his children. Carl, who has returned to the love field, finds that he has left the era of men and women in love. Fortunately, he meets Jacob Palmer (Ryan Gosling), a master of picking up girls, who helps him to reorganize his outfit and teaches him the most fashionable way to capture the hearts of women. Carl is back in the love field, but it is Jacob who encounters emotional troubles. He meets a girl named Hannah (Emma Stone), who makes him realize that true love has nothing to do with tricks and games. He no longer cares whether he can "pick up" her, but would rather chat with her all night. Carl, who has become more popular with women, gradually finds that his family is still his biggest concern. Jacob gradually finds that he is willing to give up his playboy days for Hannah. In addition, Carl's 13-year-old son also begins to fall in love and worries about love. How crazy and stupid love is, the moment Hannah invites Jacob to her home for dinner, the final result is revealed...
