Plot:
The combination of Dazai Osamu and Ninagawa Mika can be described in one word: sex. Ninagawa did not follow the semi-autobiographical novel "No Longer Human" which was just a superficial retelling of Dazai Osamu's novel. She used the name of the book to directly film the story between him and three women. Dazai Osamu's wife Michiko, his lover Shizuko who aspires to be a writer, and his last lover Toyoko, are played by actresses Rie Miyazawa, Erika Sawajiri, and Fumi Nikaido, respectively. The rich and colorful pictures are a flowing visual feast, which sets off the theme tones carefully designed by Ninagawa for the three women. In order to fight against the powerlessness of life, Dazai Osamu indulges in women and alcohol, chasing the light of death in his decadent and gloomy life. In Ninagawa's lens, he is both a talented man and a scumbag. His unbearableness, on the contrary, reflects the fragility and beauty of the human world.
