In order to break up her marriage with her philandering brother Oblonsky (Matthew Macfadyen) and sister-in-law Dolly (Kelly Macdonald), which is on the verge of collapse, the beautiful lady Anna Karenina (Keira Knightley) takes a train to Moscow. She meets the cavalry officer Vronsky (Aaron Johnson) there. The latter is elegant and handsome, which makes Dolly's sister Katie (Alicia Vikander) infatuated, and also makes Anna, who is already a married woman, feel moved.
