Plot:
Jason (Michael A.Angarano) is probably the fan of the world's largest collection of Kung Fu movies, except for Quentin Tarantino. One summer day, the 17-year-old boy rode his bicycle to a pawn shop in Boston's Chinatown to look for Chinese Kung Fu movies with collectible value, but he always got into trouble when crossing the alley near his home because Jason was often targeted by a group of thugs and often bullied by them. Jason is proficient in video games and knows a lot about Kung Fu movies. He always hopes that he can become a Kung Fu master, but the pawnshop owner Lao Huo thinks that Jason is not the material at all and he doesn't know what Kung Fu is. One day, Jason accidentally found a mysterious golden hoop in the pawnshop, and he actually crossed the doorless door and came to ancient China! He found that he had been in a shocking prophecy: a messenger would return the legendary weapon to its owner, so as to rescue the Monkey King who had been trapped in the stone for 500 years. In ancient and mysterious China, Jason began a journey full of dangers. Along the way, he met many characters from the world of martial arts or ancient legends: the bard Lu Yan (Jackie Chan), who is known as one of the Eight Immortals and a master of drunken boxing, the revengeful chivalrous woman Jin Yanzi (Liu Yifei), and the silent, mysterious and powerful monk (Jet Li). The four of them went to Wuxing Mountain together, where the legendary Monkey King was imprisoned by the evil Jade Emperor (Zou Zhaolong). The Jade Emperor sent his top killer, the notorious white-haired witch Ni Chang (Li Bingbing), who led a group of killers to hunt down Jason and others many times, forcing Jason to face his inner fear while trying hard to understand Chinese Kung Fu. Was Jason's journey a dream because he was too fascinated by Kung Fu, or did he really travel through time and space to fulfill an ancient prophecy? The drunken immortal Lu Yan said: The world you come from is a dream. To save the Monkey King, you must first redeem yourself.
