Plot:
Vietnam was a French colony in 1929. A 15-year-old French girl (Jane March) was studying at a boarding school for girls in Saigon. She went home every holiday. Her mother ran a very small school with little income. She had two older brothers. The eldest brother, Bill, was addicted to drugs and was domineering. The second brother, Paul, was cowardly by nature and was often bullied by his eldest brother. One day, the girl said goodbye to her mother and took the ferry back to school as usual. On the boat, she met a Chinese rich man (Tony Leung) in a big black car. He was the only son of a wealthy overseas Chinese. The Chinese man liked the white girl and went to chat with her, and the two got together. The girl knew that some girls in the boarding school were prostitutes outside, and she also wanted to find a rich man to try, so she took the initiative to talk to the man.
