Plot:
In the United States in the 1950s, Teres (Rooney Mara), a young woman, worked as a salesperson in a New York department store, but she yearned for the work of a photographer. One day, a beautiful and elegant blond lady Carol (Cate Blanchett) came to a department store to buy Christmas gifts, and she met Teres at first sight. After the two met, Teres learned that Carol had a daughter, and she was divorcing her husband Haji (Kyle Chandler). Through letters, dates, and road trips, Teres and Carol discovered that each other was their true love, but this was not allowed in society at the time. Teres' boyfriend thought she was just confused for a while, while Carol's husband asked a private detective to investigate and collect evidence, hoping to leave her with nothing in the divorce proceedings. The time to test the two women has finally arrived: Under social pressure, can they stick to their hearts and go all the way to the end of their relationship at all costs? "Carol" is a new work by the famous American independent director Todd Haynes. It was shortlisted for the main competition unit of the 68th Cannes Film Festival and won the Best Actress Award. The film is based on Patricia Highsmith's anonymous lesbian novel "The Price of Salt" in 1952. Due to the sensitive subject matter, the publisher initially refused to release it. It is called "The Price of Salt" because in the 17th century "salt" had another meaning to represent female lust. In this book, it metaphorically represents the situation of the heroines: without love, it is like meat without salt; so how much are you willing to pay for this love?
