The evil industrialist Takeda Kanryu (played by Kagawa Teruyuki) manipulated the female doctor Takahae (played by Aoi Yu) to develop a new type of opium, openly recruited down-and-out warriors, and bought up surrounding land in an orderly manner to realize his wolfish ambitions. During this period, Udo Banbei (played by Yoshikawa Koji), who killed innocent people indiscriminately in the name of the executioner Battousai, attracted the attention of the former Shinsengumi leader Saito Ichi (played by Eguchi Yosuke), and also forced the real Battousai Kenshin Himura (played by Sato Takeru), who had been hiding his identity for many years, to appear.
