Adventurer Ben Gates (Nicolas Cage) is on a more difficult adventure treasure hunt. The death of Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States, has always been an unsolved case in American history. According to investigations, the murderer John Vox Booth was actually instigated to commit a shocking murder. Gates attended a public speech, and a man named Mickey Wilkinson (Ed Harris) in the audience claimed that Gates' grandfather was inextricably linked to Lincoln's death. So Gates began to investigate clues related to John Booth and found a book called "National Secrets", which is the key to answering all questions. But only the President of the United States himself knows where the National Secrets is. In order to find out the truth, Gates took the risk and kidnapped the president.
