The play is set against the backdrop of the warlords' melee in the Republic of China. It mainly tells the story of Xiao Hongye (played by Li Jiulin), a "cold warlord" who bears a family feud during the war and tries every means to get close to the "rich lady" Gu Meng (played by Guan Chang). The two gradually fall in love with each other amid the interweaving of family feuds, thus triggering a tragic love story of love and hate.
