The film tells the story of a Chinese family whose grandmother is diagnosed with cancer, but the family chooses to hide it from her. They invite all family members to go home to see their grandmother for the last time under the guise of a wedding. However, Billie (Awkwafina), who grew up in New York, believes that it is her grandmother's human right to know her condition. Therefore, a cultural conflict between China and the West is staged in the Chinese family, a family comedy about finding roots. The story is adapted from the family story of Chinese-American female director Wang Ziyi, who was also selected by Variety magazine as one of the directors to watch in 2019 for this film.
