The film tells the story of a world full of super villains. Emily Stanton (Octavia Spencer) accidentally gave her former bestie Lydia (Melissa McCarthy) super powers, and the two heroines had to join forces to form the "Goddess of Thunder" to deal with the villain "The King" and protect Chicago.
