Plot:
In 1956, a couple who were in love got married. The differences between Wenli (played by Jiang Wenli) and Tongzhi (played by Zhang Guoli) were already evident in the early days of their marriage. Wenli, who loved Soviet novels, pursued life, and had a strong petty-bourgeois sentiment in her heart, was the most beloved daughter in the family, while Tongzhi, who was upright and unromantic, was also the only son loved by his parents. Before the sweet honeymoon period was over, Wenli had already given birth to a daughter, and they were embarrassed as parents for the first time. The second daughter, Nanfang, then came into the world, and the couple, who were unable to take care of themselves, had to send her to Sichuan to be taken care of by Tongzhi's mother. In contrast, there are also Tongzhi's good friends Dazhuang and Dazhuang's wife as a comparison, highlighting the trivial joys and pains experienced together in one episode of one year's life. The emotional friction of young people, the confusion of extramarital affairs in middle age, the toil of children in old age, and the relationship between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law and the fate of the country are all inseparable from this ordinary couple. In 2005, Wenli had a physical check-up. Before the results came out, everyone held a golden wedding celebration for the two elders. At least at that moment, everyone felt calm and happy.
