Debbie (Reese Witherspoon) and Peter (Ashton Kutcher) are best friends, but their personalities are completely different. Debbie longs to live a normal life with her son in Los Angeles; Peter struggles in the ever-changing New York. They decide to exchange houses and experience each other's lives.
