Plot:
In the spring of 1922, writer Nick (Tobey Maguire) left his hometown with hope and came to the emerging city of New York with the gold rush. Although jazz music was popular and stocks soared, the rich and the poor were polarized, and people were immersed in the world of luxury. In pursuit of the American dream, Nick gave up writing and entered the stock market. He moved to the bay near New York and became a neighbor of the mysterious rich Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio). On the other side of the bay lived Nick's cousin Daisy (Carey Mulligan) and her aristocratic husband Tom (Joel Edgerton). Nick was not only invited to the banquet, but Tom also took him to find mistresses for fun. Nick gradually lost himself in this world full of charm, illusions, love and lies compiled by the rich. But only Gatsby was the most special. He was the only one who made Nick feel full of hope in this lost city. Nick was invited to the feast in Gatsby's mansion and discovered the secret in Gatsby's heart. It turned out that he had always loved Daisy. Even though she did not wait for him to return after the war and married the wealthy Tom, Gatsby always believed that their love was unswerving. As a witness of Gatsby and Daisy's love, Nick finally saw the hypocrisy of this upper class society after Gatsby was murdered. He decided to stay away from the noisy, indifferent and false metropolis and return to his hometown sadly...
