The film tells the love-hate relationship between two young people in the complex social and political situation in China in 1989. The beautiful Yu Hong left her village, family and boyfriend to study in Beijing, where she discovered a new world. She fell in love with Zhou Wei. The relationship between the two became dangerous. As a young girl who had just arrived at Peking University from a remote small town, Yu Hong had a romantic and sometimes even reckless mindset, pouring out her desire for a fierce life in her diary. In the first half of the film, after several friendships, hazy love, and an intense, jealous, on-and-off relationship with Zhou Wei, a thin, bookish boy and the love of her life, her desire was satisfied. But Yu Hong and Zhou Wei, as well as their friends and enemies in the film, are not ordinary college students. Or rather, their college life has an unusual background.
