Super villain Gru (voiced by Steve Carell) was dissatisfied with the emergence of new thieves in the market after hearing the news that the Egyptian pyramids were stolen. He decided to build a rocket with the help of Dr. Nafario (voiced by Russell Brand) to steal the moon. In the process of loaning money to the bad guy bank, the shrinking ray gun stolen by Gru was snatched by the new thief Victor (voiced by Jason Segel).
