Through the experiences of several "new" lawyers and their masters, the film describes the social changes and impacts faced by Hong Kong in recent years. Barristers Fan Xiaoyu (Huang Zhixian) and Rao Lihong (Guan Lijie), who are famous for fighting criminal cases, have known each other for many years but their hearts are not in harmony; plus Xiaoyu's separated wife Mo Xilai (Wang Junxin) later hooked up with Lihong, making Xiaoyu and Lihong's enemies even more entangled. Xiaoyu and Lihong's apprentices each have their own way of survival. Some stick to principles, some are willing to reduce prices, some rely on old connections, some rely on their father's shadow, and some trust in appearance.
