Plot:
The story takes place in the 1930s, when Gaomi, Shandong, was in chaos, and this epic legend happened. The impoverished landlord Dai Laosan (Han Tongsheng) was forced to make a living and insisted on marrying his beautiful and strong daughter Jiuer (Zhou Xun) to the son of the Shan family, a large wine-making family, who suffered from leprosy. Jiuer failed to wait for her childhood sweetheart Junjie to elope with her, but was kidnapped by the bandit Huabozi. In the end, she escaped from the tiger's mouth thanks to the rescue of the sedan bearer Yu Zhan'ao (Zhu Yawen). Jiuer walked into the grave of a desperate marriage, while Yu Zhan'ao savagely destroyed the marriage and took her to find true happiness. No matter how the villagers despised and cursed, these two "dog men and women" lived out their true nature straightforwardly. They ran a sorghum wine shop, and Yu Zhan'ao even established armed forces to compete with various forces. With the outbreak of the Japanese invasion of China, they also came to the crossroads of fate... This film is adapted from Mo Yan's classic novel "Red Sorghum Family".
