Plot:
Murders occurred in Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto one after another. All five victims were killed instantly by masked black shadows with samurai swords and bows and arrows. The police intervened in the investigation and found that the victims were all members of the theft group "Genji Hotaru" that specializes in stealing famous Buddhist statues and artworks in the three places. The group has a total of 8 members, who call each other by the names of Yoshitsune's retainers, and all have a copy of "Gikyouki". The "Gikyouki" in the hands of the five victims was taken away. On this day, the ancient temple of Sannoji in Kyoto received a strange letter saying that if the puzzle attached to the letter could be solved, the Tathagata Buddha statue stolen 8 years ago could be found. Conan and Xiaolan followed Maori Kogoro to the temple, and they were all at a loss for the puzzle. One of the five victims had taken good care of Hattori Heiji, an Osaka high school student who was comparable to Shinichi. Hattori also came to Kyoto to secretly investigate the case and took the opportunity to find his first love. When Conan and Hattori meet and jointly investigate, they discover that someone wants to kill Hattori. Then another member of "Genji Hotaru" is killed, and all of this seems to be related to the painting puzzle.
