The father of the two sisters, Tae-hee (Kim Ji-ho) and Sun-woo (Kim Hyun-joo), was originally a rich kid. He ran away with his wife despite his father's opposition to marriage. His wife died after giving birth to Sun-woo. The father lived in poverty with the two sisters. When Tae-hee was 14 and Sun-woo was 9, his father was diagnosed with cancer.
