Based on the novel of the same name by author, science editor and advertising copywriter Bonnie Gamers, the series is set in the early 1950s, when society generally believed that women belonged in the home rather than in the professional field. Elizabeth Zott (Brie Larson) longs to be a scientist in a world dominated by men. She works in a laboratory as an assistant to the famous scientist Calvin Evans (Lewis Pullman), and there is an extraordinary chemistry between the two. However, as Elizabeth finds herself pregnant, alone, and fired from the laboratory, she puts her dreams on hold, and is also inspired by the unique ingenuity of a single mother. Elizabeth accepts a job as a host on a TV cooking show and begins to teach a country of neglected housewives and those men who suddenly listen attentively a lot of knowledge beyond recipes, and she is always eager to return to the field she really loves: science.
