Plot:
In the mid-17th century, in order to increase tax revenue, King Frederick V of Denmark announced the colonization of the vast wilderness of Jutland. However, the local land is barren and bullies are rampant. For decades, many conquerors have returned empty-handed or even died in foreign lands. Until a soldier named Ludwig Kallen (Mads Mikkelsen) stood up. Ludwig was born in a humble family and suffered contempt, but he proposed to use his pension to conquer the wilderness, so he finally convinced government officials. This resolute man came to a strange place full of dangers, and after some hard work and bargaining, he finally established the King's House. However, the local snakes would not easily give up the land at their mouths to this outsider, so they coerced and lured Ludwig to submit. The two sides refused to give in, and fighting was inevitable... This film won the Best Actor Award at the 36th European Film Awards.
