Cumberbatch will play Julian Paul Assange, the director and spokesperson of the website. He once majored in physics and mathematics and worked as a programmer and hacker. Assange himself is as controversial as the website. He has won many honors for his decryption work and has also received an arrest warrant from Interpol. In 2010, Assange was wanted for allegedly raping and sexually assaulting two women in Sweden. On December 7, 2010, he surrendered to the London police and was immediately escorted to Westminster Magistrates' Court to attend the extradition hearing. His bail application was rejected. On August 16, 2012, Assange was granted political asylum in Ecuador.
