Plot:
Charlie (Charlie Plummer), a 15-year-old boy, lost his mother when he was young. He spent his entire childhood in insecurity, so he is extremely introverted and timid. Recently, Charlie moved from Spokane, Washington to Portland, where he is ready to start a new life, hoping that the new environment can sweep away the bad luck before. When Charlie was at his worst, he met a racehorse named Pete. Pete, who was strong and gentle, attracted Charlie's attention deeply, and Charlie couldn't help but approach it. Charlie regarded Pete as his best friend, although everyone told him that racehorses were just racehorses, and once they could no longer participate in the competition, they would face the fate of being slaughtered. After losing several games in a row, Pete was about to reach the end of his horse life. Charlie, who couldn't bear to see Pete die, decided to steal it from the horse farm.
