Middle-aged Takamiya Toshiichi quit his depressing job in Tokyo and returned to his hometown Niigata to work as a long-distance overnight bus driver to start a new life. One night, just as he was about to leave, his ex-wife Kaga Miyuki, who divorced him 16 years ago, got on the bus. He later learned that she had started a new family in Tokyo and was coming back to visit her sick father who lived alone in Niigata. But he could see her tiredness.
