Plot:
This season covers events from 1977 to 1990, with the introduction of Margaret Thatcher and Diana. As the 1970s draw to a close, Queen Elizabeth (Olivia Colman) and her family struggle to find a suitable bride for Prince Charles (Josh O'Connor), who is still unmarried at the age of 30, to ensure a healthy successor to the throne. Britain is in turmoil over the controversial policies of the first female Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher (Gillian Anderson). As Margaret Thatcher leads Britain into the Falklands War and the ensuing strife within the Commonwealth, her relationship with the Queen becomes increasingly strained. Prince Charles' fairytale romance with the young Lady Diana Spencer (Emma Corrin) brings some comfort and unity to the British people. However, within the court, the royal family is increasingly divided.
