The story is set in the era of Emperor Zhezong of the Northern Song Dynasty. Through the adventures and love and hatred of the three people: Qiao Feng, leader of the Beggars' Sect, Duan Yu, the prince of Dali, and Xu Zhu, a young monk from Shaolin, as well as a group of people around them, it shows the intricate grudges in the martial arts world and the inextricable greed, anger, and resentment. It sketches a picture of life full of human nature, and also symbolizes that all living beings in the world cannot escape the painful entanglement brought about by the word "love".
