Plot:
Liu Jingsheng, a man in his late 40s, whose parents and sister were both abroad, lived alone in three large bungalows in the alley. The two east-west bungalows were rented out to a fat sister who sold pancakes in Shandong, and Wang Xianbiao who came to Beijing from Hubei to take a doctorate exam. Jingsheng himself lived in the two south-facing bungalows, and lived a leisurely life. In fact, Jingsheng was not short of money. He rented out the house because there was someone to take care of it, and most importantly, the people of Jingsheng were warm and welcoming. Living together made it lively. The east, west and north bungalows were occupied by a fat sister, Wang Xianbiao and Jingsheng. After a long time, if it wasn't for the rent due date, people who didn't know would have thought they were a family. None of the three bungalows were empty. San'er, who was guarding the newspaper hall at the entrance of the alley, brought a female tenant from Harbin, Gong Xue, to Jingsheng. Considering Wang Xianbiao's difficulties, Jingsheng reduced Wang Xianbiao's rent by 100 yuan and asked Wang Xianbiao to move into his living room. The bungalow Wang Xianbiao lived in was rented to Gong Xue for 900 yuan per month. Wang Xianbiao studied day and night, and Pang Jie got up early to set up the stall. She never spoke to the newcomer Gong Xue who came in and out, and she never answered the phone no matter how many times it rang, which aroused the suspicion of Wang Xianbiao, Pang Jie and Jingsheng. Wang Xianbiao looked honest, but he often caused trouble for Jingsheng. After Jingsheng was called to the police station because of Wang Xianbiao's trouble in the bookstore, he decided to kick Wang Xianbiao out. Seeing that Wang Xianbiao had no place to go, Pang Jie stood up to intercede and took the initiative to exchange rooms with Wang Xianbiao. After Pang Jie moved to Jingsheng's living room, she took on the task of taking care of Jingsheng's food and daily life. Pang Jie did all the work that should and should not be done, which made Jingsheng feel uncomfortable. Jingsheng was afraid that some gossip would spread over time, so he set a "Hongmen Banquet" for Wang Xianbiao and wanted to exchange rooms with Wang Xianbiao. Pang Jie saw that the barber was too enthusiastic, so she packed up her things and returned to her previous east room. Not long after the incident with Fat Sister, Fat Sister, Wang Xianbiao and Gong Xue decided to unite and plot against Jingsheng because Jingsheng put the 300 yuan he spent on electricity last time into the rent. As a result, Wang Xianbiao's idea didn't last for a day before Jingsheng's superior strategy collapsed, and in the end, Fat Sister, Wang Xianbiao and Gong Xue were all embarrassed. Jingsheng didn't care about money, so he didn't take it to heart, and the small courtyard returned to its previous harmony. The harmonious days "broke into war" again because Gong Xue took Jingsheng's mobile phone by mistake. After the "war subsided", Wang Xianbiao finally passed the doctoral examination with Jingsheng's encouragement; Gong Xue, who came to Beijing to suffer, not only found a job, but also eased the tension with her parents; Fat Sister bought a storefront at the entrance of the alley and opened a dumpling restaurant. A year later, Wang Xianbiao ended his leisurely days and started driving a taxi. At Tanzhe Temple in southwest Beijing, Jingsheng was surprised that the three tenants who had "invited" him to Tanzhe Temple from afar were Fat Sister, Wang Xianbiao and Gong Xue, who were his tenants a year ago. Wonderful viewpoint: This is a digital film about urban life. The film cleverly focuses on the large number of landlords in real life. By telling the "story of landlords and tenants", it changes the secular life of most tenants who are only interested in profit and have little understanding of human feelings, and creates an image of a landlord who is righteous, open-minded, enthusiastic, cunning but full of human touch. While focusing on the landlord "Liu Jingsheng", the film also focuses on "scanning" the bitter and happy life of "outsiders" who come to the city with various dreams and reasons to pursue their dreams, improve their lives, change their destiny, and change the city at the same time, reflecting the humanistic care, deep sympathy and sincere respect of the film's creators for "outsiders". The most successful part of the film is the rich atmosphere of life. The "Beijing-style image" of "Liu Jingsheng" created by Zhang Huizhong, who is righteous, open-minded, enthusiastic, cunning but humane, as well as the different demands of "outsiders" for urban life expressed by Zou Jian, Zhong Yutong and Yu Ying, all give the audience a real feeling that the film is "speaking human words and acting out human affairs."
