CBS's 13-episode summer drama "Salvation" premiered on July 12, US time. The drama was written by Alex Kurtzman, Liz Kruger and Craig Shapiro, and Oscar-nominated Juan Carlos Fresnadillo will direct the first episode. "Salvation" tells the story of an MIT graduate student Liam and a technology star Darius Tanz, who brought a shocking discovery to a low-level Pentagon employee Grace: an asteroid is only six months away from hitting the earth. Therefore, Liam and Darius have to take charge of a secret plan to save the world, and Liam has to keep this secret from his loved ones. Charlie Rowe plays the protagonist Liam, Santiago Cabrera plays the other protagonist Darius Tanz, and Jennifer Finnigan plays the Pentagon press secretary and single mother Grace Darrow. She originally had a good balance between the two aspects, but she felt that the world was turned upside down because she knew that the asteroid was going to hit the earth; Grace joined the government's secret plan to save mankind, but she had to keep this secret in front of her love, and she also had to face unimaginable tests. Jacqueline Byers plays Jillian, an aspiring science fiction writer who is recruited by Darius to a "theoretical project" to save humanity, but this project may eventually have to be implemented. Ian Anthony plays Deputy Secretary of Defense Harris Anders, a complete Washington (political) person, who is assigned to the secret plan to save the world. Harris is a man dedicated to the country, but when he leads this plan, he finds that his heart is hit hard by the choice between orders and conscience. Shazi Raja plays Amanda Charles, a junior reporter for a tabloid news website in DC. She wants to report a big news so that she can become an investigative reporter, but she finds that this story will cause global panic; Rachel Drance plays Zoe, a high school student who is about to graduate. She has always been a successful person and has done everything in the "right" direction, but she did not expect that she would discover a life-changing secret and have to take risks. Dennis Boutsikaris plays Malcolm Croft, Ph.D., Liam's professor and mentor at MIT. When Liam runs to his house in the middle of the night because of a sudden discovery, Malcolm is initially dismissive, but after further studying Liam's discovery, he understands that this young genius has discovered a major event that can change human history... and it is imminent. Aaron Poole plays Lazlo, Darius' childhood friend. He and Darius have a long and complicated history, but he is still a security director and troubleshooter trusted by Darius. Erica Luttrell plays the role of Claire Rayburn in many episodes. She is a senior advisor to the president and works closely with Deputy Secretary of Defense Harris Anders on the secret plan to save the world.
