The play reproduces the glorious history of the anti-Japanese armed uprising in Qinghe area with literary and artistic methods. It describes the resolute character of Changshan Middle School principal Ma Yaonan, who resolutely joined the army at the moment of national crisis when Japan invaded China. Together with his chivalrous second brother Ma Xiaoyun and introverted and honest third brother Ma Tianmin, they spontaneously organized local teachers, students and people with lofty ideals to form an anti-Japanese armed force. Under the leadership and help of the Communist Party of China, in the heroic and fearless battles with the Japanese invaders, the team gradually grew from a "big coat army" to the disciplined and heroic anti-Japanese backbone force of our party in Qinghe area - the Third Detachment of the Shandong Column of the Eighth Route Army. The three Ma brothers also grew into excellent generals in the tempering of war, and were affectionately called "One Ma and Three Commanders" by the local people. In the arduous and long-term struggle with the Japanese invaders, the three Ma brothers all died heroically before the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japan and died for their country. Their names and heroic deeds will be forever engraved in the hearts of the people.
