Plot:
Paolo Virch, director of Idle Seekers, will once again work with production company BacFilms to create a black comedy Magical Nights. Mixing the styles of film noir and satirical comedy, it explores the behind-the-scenes stories of the golden age of Italian cinema. Set in Rome in the 1990s, it tells the story of three promising screenwriters who are convicted as the main suspects in the murder of a famous producer, who was found dead in the Tiber River on the night of the World Cup final. While being questioned by the police, they began to recall the glory and decline of Italian cinema. Newcomers Mauro Lamantia, Giovanni Toscano and Irene Vetere play the three screenwriters, and Francesca Archibugi (Crazy Love, Idle Seekers, Luck) and Francesco Piccolo (The Birth of the Pope, Days and Clouds, Human Capital) are writing the script. The film is currently shooting in Rome and is expected to be released in the second quarter of next year.
