Ali (Forest Whitaker) and his mother are survivors of the once brutal genocide. Although he has now become the head of the Cape Town Police Department's Serious Crime Unit, the bloody and terrifying memories of his childhood are still deposited in his heart, and the shadow is lingering. Brian (Orlando Bloom) is Ali's subordinate. His family members used to be radical elements in apartheid activities, but this did not affect the trust and friendship between him and Ali. A series of homicides and the emergence of a new type of drug pushed the city to the cusp. Until then, Ali, who was under great pressure, discovered that those things he thought had become the past, in fact, had no real past and would never pass.
