Plot:
Two pairs of fathers and sons, separation and alienation, communication and understanding, are all played out in their lives. The son Kenichi (played by Nakai Kiichi) is critically ill, but because of the bad relationship with his father and son, he refuses to communicate with his father for the last time. In order to fulfill his son's wishes, his father Takada (played by Takakura Ken) rushed from Japan to Yunnan to film the Nuo opera "A Thousand Miles Alone" sung by Li Jiamin. After a long journey, Takada finally arrived in Yunnan. Takada had difficulty communicating with local residents and learned that Li Jiamin had committed a crime and was imprisoned. It turned out that Li Jiamin also had a sad past with his son and was sentenced for it. Takada went through a lot of hardships to find Li Jiamin in prison and asked him to sing. Unexpectedly, after listening to the story of Takada and his son, Li Jiamin also thought of the illegitimate son he had abandoned. Halfway through the play, he burst into tears. Takada decided to go back to find his son to visit the prison. On the way, the two talked and cared for each other, and their feelings were very deep. However, the emotional ice between his son and Li Jiamin could not be broken. Just as Li Jiamin was singing again, Gao Tian received a call saying that his son had died with a smile on his face and had forgiven him.
